DST India - Research Councils UK Science Bridges Awards Program

Towards enhancement of linkages between India and UK, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), New Delhi and Research Councils (RC) UK are in process of instituting a Science Bridges Award Program. The Program shall aim at raising the impact & profile of collaborative activity and facilitate innovation from existing research between these two countries. Moreover, these awards will also accelerate the deployment of research knowledge, deepen & strengthen current research links, enable the acquisition of new skills and encourage wealth creation through improving transfer of research and expertise from the research base to businesses and other users by building science and innovation bridges with world-class universities and high-tech businesses.

The details of Guidance for Outline Applications are provided within the Call Notice, downloadable from the website of Research Councils of UK (RCUK) (www.rcuk.ac.uk/international/sciencebridges.htm). The proposals submitted to this Award will undergo a two-stage peer review process. In the first stage i.e. Stage 1: Outline Proposals will be assessed & short-listed and in the second stage i.e. Stage 2: Full Proposals will be submitted in a comparable format by the Investigators short-listed at Stage 1 to be assessed by a joint India & UK domain Expert Panel.

At Stage1, the Indian Lead Investigator will work with the UK partner to jointly produce a Case for Support, not more than 3 pages of A4 (font size Arial 11 or equivalent). This Case for Support should conform to the Science Bridges Awards Specific Assessment Criteria (Appendix 1) outlined in the Call Notice. This document must be uploaded to a Joint electronic Submission system by the UK partner by the deadline of 15th May. In addition to this the Indian partner will provide information in an Outline Application Form, detailing the name and position of the persons involved in the proposal and the Institution and funds requested from the DST. This should also give a summary of the nature of the partnership,

the main elements of the proposal, and the benefits to the partner countries, India and the UK. This form should be sent directly as an email attachment to RCUK (Edward.Clarke@epsrc.ac.uk) not later than 30th May 2008. A copy of the same shall be sent to DST as well. The UK partner will provide similar information on their part, using the J-eS electronic system.

At Stage 2, Lead Investigators of India and UK from successful proposals of Stage 1 shall be required to submit the full proposal (substantive proposal to be identical) in a comparable format to DST (India) and RCUK for joint evaluation. Further details will be given to Indian Lead Investigators eligible to go through to Stage 2 and they will be contacted after short-listing of Outline Proposals.
