| Mathematical
Sciences Office (MSO) was created in the year
1994 as a separate unit in DST not only to promote
R&D in all areas of mathematical sciences
(Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research
and Theoretical Computer Science) but also to
follow up recommendations of the National Committee
on Mathematics Education, Research and Training
(under the Chairmanship of Late Prof. P.K Bose),
National Committee on Mathematical Sciences (under
the Chairmanship of Late Prof. J.N Kapur) and
the Central Planning Commission's Task Group on
Mathematical Sciences (1996). Ever since, the
MSO has been functioning very actively and has
been responsible to support R&D projects in
specially identified thrust areas www.serc-dst.org
as also promote new initiatives such as establishment
of the National Centre for Advanced Research in
Discrete Mathematics (CARDMATH) , setup "DST
Srinivasa Ramanujan National Chairs in Mathematical
Science", mathematical modelling in behavioural
/cognitive / social sciences etc. Broad objectives
of the programme include the following :
|
-
Specialized manpower
training in general R&D
-
Group Discussion
on specialized research topics
-
Advanced Training
to talented students in College/ Universities
/ Research Institutions
